Home of the Month – January 2014

We started working with this family in their home in late 2012/early 2013 after meeting them at the Somerset Home Show.

Design Works began work in the family room, which included a new mantel and fireplace surround! The family wanted a completely updated, yet warm and cozy look that highlighted some of the beautiful antiques finds they already had. We accomplished this through creating a new floor plan, selecting new upholstery, wood pieces and accessories, and of course, giving the all-important fireplace a brand new look!

Soon after completing the family room we were then contracted to re-design the Living Room. The new Living Room needed to be updated in colors and style, while providing ample seating for when the family entertained. We switched out the sectional with two small scale sofas and incorporated a few more pull up seats. Adding in updated tables and lamps helped to refine the style and finding the gorgeous antique bookcase helped to anchor the space while putting the finishing touch on this beautiful room. Now the new furnishings, layout and color scheme provide a lovely, warm entertainment-friendly room-one that the family will enjoy for many years to come!

Once our first two projects were completed, this family was so pleased, that our work progressed into the Dining Room and Foyer. These areas again called for updating furniture and providing warmth and a coordinated look with the rest of the first floor. The Dining Room began with a paint consultation to promote continuity throughout the house. Next, the fabric and furniture selections tied beautifully to the rest of the home. The Foyer gained a lovely console table, and a must-have hall mirror. Don’t worry- we found the perfect spot for the family’s collection of small vintage purses- they continue to add interest to the hall wall at the center of the house.

We are happy to have made our way around the 1st floor and can’t wait to work with this family again on the 2nd floor!
